Y2K: mankind on the threshold
2000 at last. We're there. What will the new millennium herald?
Y2K (Year 2000) is here. The Y2K bug concerns many although the clock ticked over with very few sightings of the millennium bug. Y2K preparation, Y2K compliance and Y2K testing seem to have paid off, albeit at a cost. Predictions are rife and range from planetary disaster to peace and prosperity for all. Where you identify on this scale is a reflection of your own experiences and hopes. I tend towards the latter.
Doom and gloom merchants are predicting that unusual planetary alignments will result in either the earth being ripped apart by massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, or that the gods will return and rescue us. Or both. Or neither.
Whatever your views, one thing is certain. The human race will see changes on a scale greater than ever before. Technological developments such as global mobile phones, digital interactive television and fast Internet access will become available to all. Click here for my vision as to how these developments will impact on human evolution. A major new currency (the euro), the millennium bug, a total eclipse of the sun, tyranny in Iraq, the International Space Station, and continued downsizing will be a few items to dominate our lives. The climate is also likely to continue to break records with natural disasters abounding. More controversial predictions include a cometary impact, the discovery of life elsewhere in the universe, even contact with aliens, or so my grey friend advises me to think.
Less exciting but just as important will be the growing recognition of how social issues of abuse, bullying, harassment and stress blight people's lives and preclude the fulfilment of potential. For those who continue to abuse, litigation will continue to increase.
The turn of the millennium is traditionally associated with rapid progress in human evolution and this is an exciting time to be alive. When historians look back on this decade they will identify a subtle but highly significant step in human evolution. Within a generation, human beings have moved from believing that most things are not possible to believing that anything is possible. Enabled by the availability and growth of computing power, virtual reality and visualisation have combined to allow us to elevate consciousness and expectation to previously undreamt-of levels. We are now limited only by our imagination.
This web site identifies bullying as the underlying behaviour of harassment, discrimination, prejudice, abuse, conflict and violence. As such, bullying has become the limiting factor in the rate of human evolution; Bully OnLine provides the insight to overcome those limitations.
